Department Days and Conference Speaking

“Days after Rob’s session for my department at VSO, I used the strategies he taught us on story-telling in a major donor fundraising meeting. It was one of my best moments in fundraising and the donor made a gift of £100,000 to our Emergency Appeal.’’

A Strategic Approach

Department days and charity conference speaking, whether a conference or department away day needs to deliver progress in the key areas you have set out beforehand. If not, it’s a waste of resources, both in terms of the time, money and energy spent creating the event, and in terms of lost productivity because people were taken away from their jobs to attend.

And delivering plenary presentations to a large group of people, with a broad range of job types represented in the room, requires advanced speaking skills rather than just fundraising skill or skill in conducting meetings with smaller teams.

When the stakes are this high, it’s important to find a speaker with a proven track record of teaching and inspiring large fundraising groups. Otherwise, you risk your staff getting bored and even leaving demotivated by your away day.

‘The session was consistently mentioned as the most valuable part of our away day. It even sparked ideas and moments we used straight away in a £5million pitch – which we won!  Thank you for your time, energy and WOW ideas.’
